A carer’s uniform withstands a lot during a shift, so it’s important to know how to take care of it.
Wash as instructed
Your uniform should come with a care label that provides instructions on how to clean it. Depending on the fabric, it may be recommended to wash under 40 degrees or to refrain from tumble drying. Read these instructions carefully, and be particularly careful with uniforms that are dyed, as the colour may run.
Always wash items that have printed logos inside out to protect the transferred image.

Treat stains appropriately
Spills and stains are inevitable in a care environment, and the best way to combat permanent staining is to treat marks as quickly as possible. Use a stain remover or, failing that, a mixture of washing-up liquid, bicarbonate of soda and warm water as a pre-treatment before washing as instructed.
Hang it out to dry
Rather than using a tumble dryer, which can wear out fabric, hang your washing to dry on a line. Whether you do this inside or outside does not matter, so long as the items are not dried with high heat.
Iron your uniform
Ironing not only keeps your care uniform looking neat and presentable, but it also helps to kill off any last germs lingering on your clothing. Once again, avoid high heat as this can cause lasting damage to the fabric.
