What do the colours you wear say about you?
Do you ever consider the colours that you wear? Perhaps you find that you are attracted to certain types more than others. Maybe you prefer something Red to Blue, Black to white, or you’d happily skulk around in Grey all day, regardless of the season. What is true is that specific colours compliment us more than we might realise at first. You may well like the colour yellow, but if it washes out your face out, then it’s not worth bothering with. The colours that you choose to wear put out specific messages about yourself. Whether we like it or not, humans are reactive creatures that respond to certain stimuli. Colour is one of the first things that we use to clarify the world. Media images such as films and Television have simply enhanced this feeling and play on it. For example, if Darth Vader wore a Beige helmet, cape and suit, would he have carried the same menace? We also identify colour as a way of illustrating contrast. If we look at Star Wars again, Luke Skywalker starts a New Hope in white. As he continues his training with Yoda and learns about the Dark Side, his outfit is sandy coloured, illustrating the two states, showing his coming of age. By the Return of the Jedi, he is in entire black, representing his transition and the fact he could go either way if the Emperor tempts him.
Even if you don’t feel a certain way, if you want to convey it, then colour is the best way to do it. Do you lack confidence but feel like you need to show that you are full of it? A colour choice can make all the difference. One of the most vibrant colours is Red. It means danger and a warning, but it is also the colour of love. Red can convey boldness, but too much is overwhelming. Yellow is a tricky colour to wear at the best of times. It is a way of showing your relaxed and happy side. However, it is also a sign of a childlike quality, as if it is the type of colour you grow out of.
Blue is the staple of men. It conveys a sense of friendliness and loyalty. It is easy on the eye and usually matches eye colour as well. It can come across as being cold, the warm opposite of the Red. Blue is believed to be the best kind of colour to choose if you are going for a job interview. It makes the right impression of being someone who is not afraid to wear colour, but neither are you going to go over the top with it.
