Spring Safety Tips for Your Home

Spread the love

Spring is upon us and the weather is finally looking up. After months stuck indoors you’ll be looking forward to a bit of a spring clean and general maintenance to keep you going for the rest of the year. While you might be thinking of finally throwing open those windows to let in a little air, remember not to neglect your security features. Good weather also means higher rates of burglary.

Home security system

One of the single most important things you can do to ensure the safety of your home and your family is to install a security system. Modern systems allow you to monitor your home at all times with mobile apps – they alert you to fires, forced entries and, of course, are a great way of deterring unwanted intruders.

Trim your hedges

Ensure that your hedges and bushes are kept in check. Unruly bushes provide the perfect hiding places for burglars to lurk while watching if anyone is home.

Locks

Never leave your Dublin windows and doors open when you leave, no matter how tempting it may be to allow in a little spring breeze. If you do want to leave your windows open while you’re in, you can install some window restrictors which stops them being forced open completely. Also ensure that all your doors and windows lock securely and are fitted with the latest deadbolt locks like those found at http://www.keanewindows.ie/.

Smoke Detectors

Spring cleanups aren’t just about clearing out the junk, but also ensuring that things are running as they should be. UK government guidelines suggest this should include smoke detectors, which should be tested regularly to guarantee they are in working order and that batteries are functioning as they should be.

Outdoor lighting

While some burglars are brazen enough to target homes during the day, most prefer to try their luck under the protection of darkness. Installing motion-activated lights is a great way of scaring away intruders and keeping your home secure.

Protect your ID

ID theft is big business these days, with more and more people falling victim to criminals using their identity to apply for loans and credit cards. Make sure you shred all documentation that contains your name, address and details such as social security and tax numbers.
